A few months ago, while I was shopping for cannabis-infused topicals and tinctures at the dispensary, I noticed a shelf of products dedicated strictly to pets.
- I have had amazing success alleviating pain, swelling and stiffness with ointments, lotions, sprays, extracts and a variety of cannabis products that are high in CBD.
My miniature poodle is fourteen years old. He was struggling to get up and down the stairs. He would sometimes yelp in pain when he’d jump off the couch. After a long nap, he’d be stiff and find it difficult to move around. The veterinarian had him on several medications that didn’t seem to be making much of a difference. I did some research and learned that more and more pet owners are switching to cannabis products to treat their aging dogs and cats. Apparently, CBD works well for both humans and animals. It influences CB1 and CB2 receptors in the endocannabinoid system to promote homeostasis. THC, which is the cannabinoid responsible for psychoactive effects, is harmful to pets. That’s why it’s especially important to purchase only those products that are intended for animals. These products are CBD isolates, containing not even traces of THC. I purchased a CBD pet tincture for my poodle. I now feed a few drops to him twice per day through an eye dropper. He likes the taste and is always happy to take his medicine. I’ve noticed a significant improvement in his level of activity. He not only travels up and down the stairs with no problems, he suddenly wants to play fetch and tug-of-war again. He’s wagging his tail, barking and a much happier dog.
