My neighborhood is forbidding cannabis dispensaries from opening within the neighborhood limits

I’m starting to wish that I lived in a different neighborhood altogether.

I felt this way as an unassuming teenager who appreciated to skateboard & saw his favorite skatepark shuttered after the City Council voted to ban all skating on public grounds within the neighborhood limits.

Even though the skate park was technically a private business, the neighborhood council used a fake concern over insurance liabilities to close it for different reasons. I was devastated when I heard all of this news. As a kid who was obsessed with skating, hearing this was prefer having 1 of your most favorite passions ripped away from you. I never trusted the neighborhood government again after that situation. Especially since they followed up those rules with new noise ordinances for clubs & bars that host live music. They made the rules so strict that it effectively banned live music from the downtown area permanently. Now I’m contending with another crazy ban from the city. Even though over 68% of the population voted to pass a law legalizing medical cannabis, the neighborhood saw fit to ban any cannabis dispensaries from opening in the neighborhood limits. The people I was with and I have companies suing the neighborhood council to fight the ban, but I don’t know how that will proceed. For now we’re all forced to drive to locations that are on the outskirts of the city. It’s not the worst thing in the world, however it’s still frustrating. Some of the best cannabis dispensaries are in other cities, forcing myself and others to drive even farther. With gas prices being as high as they are, I genuinely wish the neighborhood would reverse their opinion on cannabis dispensaries.
